Coral Reef Monitoring and Mapping
Accurate data about the health of coral reefs is critical to restoration. To precisely monitor the coral reefs, Kuleana is using systems of cameras to map existing reefs and to track the success of restored corals and the marine life that inhabits them.
3D Maps & Photomosaics
By building 3D maps and large-scale photomosaics of our restoration sites and the surrounding areas, Kuleana Coral can plan, document, and monitor our reef restoration efforts. These maps and photomosaics are the most precise and up-to-date evidence of the status of these reefs. These maps are an invaluable tool for long-term monitoring of our restoration sites and the surrounding area.
Monitoring Process
During the monitoring process, we tag, measure, photograph, and log a representative sample of transplanted coral. We will use long-term monitoring to track the success of our restored corals and make and needed changes to future restoration practices.
