RESTORING HAWAIʻI'S CORAL REEFS TO CULTIVATE RESILIENT MARINE ECOSYSTEMS, FOR THE ENRICHMENT OF THE CULTURE, ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMY OF THE PEOPLE OF HAWAI'I AND FOR THE WORLD
01
Kuleana Coral’s primary objective is to RESTORE damaged coral reefs around Oʻahu. By developing localized coral restoration practices specific to Hawaiʻi, Kuleana Coral aims to develop cost-effective and scalable techniques that can be applied across the archipelago.
02
Kuleana Coral monitors coral reefs to inform ecosystem-based management decisions and measure the impact of our restoration activities. We use camera systems to map existing reefs, track the success of restored corals, and quantify populations of the marine life that depend on them.
03
Kuleana Coral works to educate and inspire others to care for coral reefs. We work with and alongside communities to educate local residents, visitors, and the next generation the importance of ocean ecosystems and our kuleana to protect them.
“Kuleana” is the uniquely Hawaiian practice of fulfilling a special responsibility, honoring an obligation, and stewardship. Kuleana requires action and dedication, collectively and individually.
KCR is restoring Hawaiʻi’s coral reefs to cultivate resilient marine ecosystems, for the enrichment of the culture, environment, and economy of the people of Hawaiʻi and for the world.
