Coral Reef Monitoring and Mapping
Accurate data about the health of coral reefs is critical to successful, long-term restoration. To precisely monitor the coral reefs, Kuleana uses systems of cameras to map existing reefs and to track the survivability of restored corals and the marine life that depends on them.

3D Maps & Photomosaics
By building 3D maps and large-scale photomosaics of our restoration sites and the surrounding areas, Kuleana Coral can plan, document, and monitor our reef restoration efforts and compare them to areas without intervention. These maps and photomosaics are the most precise and latest evidence of the status of these reefs. They are an invaluable tool for long-term monitoring, can be executed by trained community members, and used to illustrate restoration to the general public.
Monitoring Process
During the monitoring process, we tag, measure, photograph, and log a representative sample of transplanted coral. We will use long-term monitoring to track the success of our restored corals and make and needed changes to future restoration practices.
